Teaching Teens

I recently read in Steam about a man whose 16 year old son found a Depew firemans hat and goggles. The son wanted to keep them but the father wanted to teach his son a lesson so he took them back to the Depew Fire Hall. The dad went on to say he left a card with his phone number and suggested to them" giving his kid a special thank you for returning it because those helmets run around $200". He went on to say "it's been 2 weeks now and we haven't heard anything. Maybe I should've let him keep it". Really?! what sort of lesson did you think you were teaching your son? That he should expect a " special thank you" just for doing the right thing? Neither the dad nor his son must have been Boy Scouts. Ever hear of " do a good turn daily"? No thanks needed!

By leaving your card at the fire department to perhaps get a "special thank you" you mean't that you wanted to get money from returning the helmet/goggles. In checking, I found out that you were properly called and thanked by a member of the Depew Fire Department. But since you did not get any money out of the deal, you decided to embarrass the Depew Fire Department by having your "story" printed in Steam. You're teaching your son a great lesson Tony.
