Greiner/Shimerville Improvement Project

The Erie County Department of Public Works is working feverishly to complete a project to turn a quiet, residential intersection with an all way stop into a monstrocity of an intersection with a signal and turning lanes. They have been telling us there are "too many" accidents at the corner, but they won't give us specific numbers. Additionally, they are also stating that 13,00 vehicles traverse the intersection daily. If you do the math, that's 541 cars per hour!! We, who live at or in proximity, know that is not factual. We do not feel that any modification to the all way stop is necessary. There have been no fatalities at the intersection in the 25 years I've lived there. There were numerous accidents when it was a 2 way stop, but when the all way was installed, the numbers decreased dramatically. If the ECDPW continues with this signal and turning lane project, we all know the number of accidents will increase because impatient motorists will accelerate on amber to avoid being caught at a red light. Taxpayers in the Town of Clarence will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of the signal, as well as the cost of operating it. Do we really need more unnecessary expenses? We, who live at or in proximity of this intersection are asking residents of the Town of Clarence to contact our elected officials and put a stop to this. We do not need to have a quiet intersection turned into one that is more suited to a commericial/business intersection.
