Les Christian has captured the Springville Country Club Championship for the third consecutive year, with rounds of 73 – 71. Bill Lowe was second, Bob Brock was third and Alan Brown was fourth.
Richard Fancher has been appointed as the assistant manager of the Springville office of the Manufacturers and Traders Trust Company.
Maynard Lux, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Lux, is undergoing nine weeks of basic recruit training at the Naval Training Center, Great Lakes, Ill.
Donald Gentner of West Main Street has recently completed his first year of graduate study at the University of California at Berkeley. He is a National Foundation fellow, working toward a Ph.D. in physical chemistry.

The Springville Chapter of Future Farmers of America had three members’ attending FFA Camp Oswegatchie in the Adirondacks, recently. They are Wayne Harvey, Michael McCloud and Andrew Laurie.
Mr. and Mrs. Edward Inman of Pfarner Road, Boston, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Aug. 1.
Timo Tapio Harmo, 17, of Helsinki, Finland, will be arriving soon, as part of the American Field Service Program. He will be living with Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Salzler of South Central Avenue, Springville, for the school year.
Marine Midland Bank – Western has announced the election of Willard MacFarland to the advisory board at the local Springville branch.

Sclaugenhauf – Heitman – On May 13, at the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints at Lewiston, Elder Clifford Spitsbury performed the marriage ceremony of Claudia Heitman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Heitman of West Valley and Stephen Schlagenhauf of Batavia.
Kaczanowski – Steff – On June 10 at St. Francis Cabrini Church, Collins Center, the Rev. Onofrio Smiroldo performed the marriage ceremony of Marie Steff and Edward Kaczanowski.

Four students from this area have been chosen from thousands of eligible students statewide to attend a component school of the New York State Summer School of the Arts. Local students include Robin Scheider, School of Orchestral Studies; Anne Marie Masterson, School of Choral Studies; Charles Vaughn, School of Choral Studies and Eric Lawton, School of Choral Studies.
Ann Luno of the Springville Future Farmers of America chapter attended the FFA Washington Conference Program in Washington, D.C.
John Evans scored a double eagle on the par five 11th hole, as his second shot dropped into the cup for a score of 2.
John Trodden of Springville, the qualifier from Springville Lanes for the Pro-Am Tournament held July 16 at Thruway Lanes, bowled a 605 scratch set and, with a handicap, had a 696. Cindy Shea of Springville bowled a 611 set and, with handicap, had 660.

The new computer lab at West Valley Central School has been made possible, largely through a partnership agreement with the U.S. Department of Energy and reflects the culmination of more than a year of planning.
Electrical wires, with an initial estimated value of $4,500, were taken from the village facilities, some time last week. The theft was discovered Friday morning, but it was not known if it had occurred that night or a day or two before the discovery.

Leonard and Dorothy Ploetz of West Valley celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on July 7, with a family dinner at the Barn Restaurant in Ellicottville, followed by an open house at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Ellicottville. Ploetz and the former Dorothy Buerger were married on July 6, 1962 by the bride’s father, the late Rev. Edgar Buerger. The couple has four children and nine grandchildren.
Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Enser of Springville recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Enser and the former Dorothy Hayden were married on July 17, 1972 at St. John the Baptist Church in Boston. They have four children and 12 grandchildren.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Quinn Jr. of Cape Cod, Mass. and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Schaus of Hamburg, formerly of Boston.
