June 21, 1962

A potential 150 students will receive their diplomas from Frederick Agle, president of the board of education, at the 132nd commencement program at Griffith Institute ,on Sunday, June 24.

Nancy R. Bond, daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. Wilbur C. Bond, graduated on May 30 from Eastern Bible Institute in Green Lane, Pa.

Nationwide direct distance dialing starts, for all telephone users in Springville, at 3:01 a.m. on Saturday, June 23.

James Lillie, under the sponsorship of Concord Post No. 431, American Legion, leaves this week to attend the Empire State Program at Colgate University.

A new pastor, the Rev. Norman E. Douglas, was appointed to the First Methodist Church of Springville by Bishop W. Ralph Ward Jr. on Sunday, June 10.

June 22, 1972

Alys Frank of Springville celebrated her 90th birthday on June 13.

Mr. and Mrs. Russell C. Miller celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on June 12 with a family dinner held at the Embers Restaurant in Colden.

Mr. and Mrs. H. Jacob Benzing will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on June 29 with a family reception.

James Cairns of Springville is one of 78 students and teachers taking part in the 19th annual research participation program in science at the Roswell Park Memorial Institute, the New York State Department of Health Cancer Research, which is a treatment center in Buffalo.

THIRTY YEARS AGO
June 24, 1982

Miss Cassandra Hauri, 16, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Hauri Sr. of West Valley, has been selected for competition in the 1982 Teenworld State Finals, to be held at the Americans of Rochester in Rochester on June 26.

Ricky Schaus, 5, of Glenwood, along with his brother Benjamin, his mom Cindy and his grandmother Norma Gasper, spent the last two weeks in California. The highlight of the trip was visiting the home of Catherine Bach, who plays Daisy Duke on TVs “The Dukes of Hazard” which airs on Friday nights.

McCall – Dessalet-Langhorne – Terrace Baptist Church was the scene of the recent wedding of Linda Dessalet, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Dessalet Jr. of Oakford, Pa., and John E. McCall, son of Mr. and Mrs. C.E. McCall of Springville.

June 25, 1992

Sludge washing of the high level radioactive waste at the West Valley Demonstration Project and construction plans for remediation of the state radioactive waste burial ground are proceeding as expected, according to updates given by WVDP officials.

Civil War Days, set for Saturday and Sunday at the Barrier Farm of Springville, will re-enact the Battle of Gettysburg for its afternoon feature, this year.

Jean Ciszak is retiring effective Friday, June 26.

June 20, 2002

Theresa Plunkett has been selected to attend Empire Girls State at Union College in Schenectady.

The Springville-Griffith Institute School District is in line to save approximately $100,000 in the 2002-03 school year, due to a change in the carriers for the district’s Workers Compensation Insurance.

Business and property owners on Main Street in Springville will be receiving a letter from Springville Mayor Gary Eppolito, describing the village’s intent to undertake a program to enhance the appearance of the business area along Main Street

Boy was born to:
Chris and Dawn (nee Boberg) VanBerkel of Herndon, Va., at Reston Hospital Center, May 26, Ethan Christopher. Grandparents are Dave and Diane Boberg of West Valley.
