June 28, 1962
Directors and officers of the town of Concord Sesquicentennial:

MARRIED

Benkelman – Bowser – On June 16 at the Cattaraugus Methodist Church, Linda Joan Bowser of Cattaraugus became the bride of Larry Elton Benkelman of Springville. The Rev. John H. Templeton Jr. performed the ceremony.

Spaulding – Ortel – Marlene Ann Ortel and Morris N. Spaulding were married June 17 at the Collins Center Methodist Church. The Rev. Esler Slocum officiated.

FORTY YEARS AGO
June 29, 1972

Springville Volunteer Firemen collected food and clothing for victims of the flooding in the Southern Tier, which took 24 lives. In addition to collecting supplies, Springville firemen took their pumper to Salamanca.

Ted and Jamie Hamilton, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Ted Hamilton of Springville, won first prize in the radio station WWOL’s “What My Dad Means to Me.”

MARRIED

Turner – Meade – On May 27, at the First United Methodist Church by the Rev. Raymond Risden, Teresa Jane Meade, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John W. Meade of Springville, became the bride of James Arthur Turner, son of Mr. and Mr. Donald Turner of Dansville.

Pedley – Kruse – On June 10, at St. Aloysius Church, Springville, by the Rev. Hubert Reimann, Barbara Kruse, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Kruse of Springville was married to Dennis W. Pedley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Pedley of Newfane.

THIRTY YEARS AGO
July 1, 1982

On the morning of June 22, the women of No. 12 tee and No. 11 green at Springville Country Club were shocked to see a man come out of the bushes near Route 219 and streak across the golf course, In fact, some of the ladies sought protection by returning in a cart to the clubhouse where they enlisted the aid of Clubhouse Manager Mike Dygert, who came down to survey the situation. The streaker was seen getting into a truck and heading north. Later it was reported that he appeared in the same condition on the bridge at Genesee Road and Route 219.

Howard and Jean Spittler of Prospect Avenue, Springville, celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on June 27.

Some of the residents of Fiddler’s Green Nursing Home, 168 West Main St., Springville, were moved to other parts of the building during a laundry room fire at 4:20 p.m. Saturday, June 26. Fast-acting employees and Springville and East Concord firemen kept the blaze from spreading. There was minor heat and smoke damage.

TWENTY YEARS AGO
June 2, 1992

The Springville Journal is hosting two journalism interns this summer, Angela Hussein and Brian Warner. Hussein of Springville will be entering her junior year at Colgate University and is a political science major. Warner of Collins Center has completed a year at Hilbert College and will enter Andrews University near Chicago in September.

Legislation in the Assembly calling for on-site storage of most low-level radioactive waste where it is produced, has been amended to include West Valley for consideration.

Bertrand Chaffee Hospital announced the installation of new ultrasound equipment. The Aloka SSD 680 replaces an older model.

Stan Krezmien of Witter-Davis Furniture was elected 1992 Knight of the Year by the Knights of Columbus Commandery 408 of St. Aloysius Church of Springville. He is a chartered member since 1974.

The Springville Village Board voted to require Springville Youth Inc. to add liability coverage to its insurance policy. The village will ask the town of Concord, co-sponsor of SYI, to make the same request.

TEN YEARS AGO
June 27, 2002

George and Helen Fleckenstein of Springville celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on June 23.

Concord Town Supervisor Mark Steffan came across a piece of Concord history that showed up on eBay recently. He was looking for Springville memorabilia when he ran across an item advertising the deed to the land on which Godard Memorial Hall, now Concord Town Hall, sits. He purchased the deed and it is now the property of the town of Concord.
